Photos – U.S. Bike Trip – 1976-1977 (Set Three – Sea Gun Resort Hotel, Rockport, Texas)
-
-
This is a post card from the Sea Gun Resort Hotel in Rockport, TX; where we lived and renovated these cottages on the Gulf of Mexico – which are now called “Sea Gun Cottage” at seaguncottage.com.)
-
-
Bruce and I had our own apartment at the Sea Gun during our stay from January 8, 1977 until April 21, 1977; and the office manager took this Polaroid picture of me one day in the office.
-
-
In April we continued our bike trip across Texas, and while we worked at the Sea Gun we had use of the apartment, one main employee meal a day and an hourly wage while renovating the cottages.
-
-
This is another Polaroid photo taken by the office manager – a little worse for wear after all these years – of me one day as I was getting ready to go back to renovating the cottages.
-
-
Bruce and I did a little of everything at the Sea Gun, from landscaping and trimming palm trees to heavy manual labor clearing debris out of the cottages as they were renovated.
-
-
I’m sure the office staff thought we were a real novelty during this pause in our bike trip, and the office manager was a very nice lady who took good care of us during our time at the Sea Gun.
-
-
This is a Polaroid picture of me outside the front door of our apartment at the Sea Gun, where life was relaxed and easy going when we were not working.
-
-
These few Polaroid photos during our time at the Sea Gun are all that I have of our stay along the coast in Rockport, TX.
-
-
We worked hard while employed at the Sea Gun, and took countless trips in their old green pick-up truck to the local landfill, to dispose of building debris during the cottage renovations.
-
-
Here’s another undated Polaroid picture of me outside our apartment at the Sea Gun, where we also helped the captain run the tour boat which took people out to see the Whooping Cranes.
-
-
Spending the winter months in the Texas sunshine along the Gulf of Mexico agreed with us, and the three month break from our trip allowed us to make enough money to continue west in the spring.
-
-
This photo of me was taken in our apartment at the Sea Gun, and by the time we left we were stronger, tanned and ready to continue the bike trip after all of the manual labor that we did.
-
-
The Sea Gun folks did everything imaginable to make our stay work out for us during the pause in our trip, but by April we were ready to say good bye and continue westward bound.
