After our trip to Louisville, Ohio, we continued on with my aunt and uncle through Ohio, Pennsylvania and into New York State – here David and my Uncle Bill walk the beach at Presque Isle State Park in Erie, PA.
It was my Uncle Bill who had driven Bruce and I – along with my Uncle Suds – on a preview of the Appalachian Mountains in southern Ohio during our bike trip in 1976 – 18 years earlier.
On this trip in 1994 we also stopped at an old fashioned ice cream shop near Louisville, Ohio – where we had the best milk shakes ever – here David plays in the sand at Presque Isle State Park on Lake Erie.
On this trip we also stopped at a Buffalo ranch in Ohio, and saw The Lion King movie for the very first time in Cleveland, Ohio – which was first released in June of 1994.
Here my Aunt Gloria and Uncle Bill relax on a driftwood log on the beach at Presque Isle State Park on Lake Erie, while watching us play in the surf of Lake Erie.
My aunt and uncle were the best tour guides ever – easy going and carefree – taking us into Pennsylvania and across the state line into New York State as well – just so my wife and David could say they had visited each state.
David was having fun playing on the beach and we were all relaxing and enjoying this vacation – a world away from our life in Germany and Spangdahlem AB.
Trying to see who could skip a stone the farthest, David winds up for his next attempt – the series of breakwaters along the beach can easily be seen on the Google Map satellite image of Presque Isle State Park on Lake Erie.
I hold my own stone waiting my turn in the stone skipping competition with David – a day at the beach brings out the kid in all of us – and this visit was a highlight of our vacation.
