In October 1997 our family took a vacation to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany, as we always tried to do around the same time each year.
We’ve always loved the Bavarian Alps, and stayed at the Armed Forces Recreation Centers (AFRC) Hotels in Garmisch, but this year for some reason the AFRC hotel was overbooked.
The AFRC hotel made arrangements for us to stay at the Hotel Alpina in Garmisch at no additional charge, and these first four photos were taken looking toward the Alps from our hotel room.
Late September or October were always our choice for visiting Garmisch-Partenkirchen because it was between tourist seasons, the air had the scent of crisp fall days and there was just a dusting of snow in the mountains.
The Hotel Alpina provided us with a wonderful stay during our visit to Bavaria, and it was centrally located right in the heart of Garmisch.
I’ve included these post card views of the Hotel Alpina for anyone who has never visited Bavaria or Germany, so you can enjoy the flavor of Bavarian hospitality!
The weather in October usually has a chill to the air in the mornings and evenings, but this year was unseasonably cold, with arctic like temperatures.
Despite the cold temperatures the skies were perfectly blue, which gave us exactly those beautiful fall days and brilliant fall colors that made for a perfect Bavarian visit!
We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Alpina, and were provided with top notch accommodations – and would recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area for business or pleasure!
