Dreamer was written in 1990, but it wasn’t necessarily meant to be autobiographical – but after all these years it certainly is – all you have to do is replace ‘Johnny’ with ‘Mark’ and it’s all about me! I’ve always been all about dreams and adventures, ever since I was first introduced to the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien by my friend Dan in the sixth grade and left home on my first bicycle adventure of 8,000 miles around the United States in 1976…and the rest is history. I was never satisfied with the options life presented me with and I always chose to follow my dreams and find my own way through life. The adventurous life isn’t an easy road to follow and it can often be quite difficult and unforgiving, but it was the only road that led to my hopes and dreams. I’m still traveling that same road today and pursuing dreams I’ve had for decades, as well as new dreams that have only recently been realized, but the story’s the same, “Johnny they say you’re a dreamer, Will you ever find your way, Always lookin’ for sunshine, On a rainy day…”
As with all of my early songs during which I worked with my friend Gordon Olvera, I’ve shared the copyright with him for trying to give voice to my songs. Also, emailed versions of these songs lose their chord alignment and formatting, so refer to the original post and/or the scanned lyric sheet as your guide.
