Original Song – “Dreamer”

Dreamer was written in 1990, but it wasn’t necessarily meant to be autobiographical – but after all these years it certainly is – all you have to do is replace ‘Johnny’ with ‘Mark’ and it’s all about me!  I’ve always been all about dreams and adventures, ever since I was first introduced to the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien by my friend Dan in the sixth grade and left home on my first bicycle adventure of 8,000 miles around the United States in 1976…and the rest is history.  I was never satisfied with the options life presented me with and I always chose to follow my dreams and find my own way through life.  The adventurous life isn’t an easy road to follow and it can often be quite difficult and unforgiving, but it was the only road that led to my hopes and dreams.  I’m still traveling that same road today and pursuing dreams I’ve had for decades, as well as new dreams that have only recently been realized, but the story’s the same, “Johnny they say you’re a dreamer, Will you ever find your way, Always lookin’ for sunshine, On a rainy day…”

As with all of my early songs during which I worked with my friend Gordon Olvera, I’ve shared the copyright with him for trying to give voice to my songs.  Also, emailed versions of these songs lose their chord alignment and formatting, so refer to the original post and/or the scanned lyric sheet as your guide.

Verse One:

D                                  G

Johnny they say you’re a dreamer

       D                        G

Just dreaming your life away

D                        G

Always looking for something

      D                        G

But never finding your way

            A

Could it be that there’s no answer

          D                         G

To the questions that you ask

         A

Or do you know something we don’t

               D                          A

And you’ll find your way in the end

         G

In the end     (End)

Chorus:

      Bm                        G

The world was made for dreamers

     Bm             G

To carry on our dreams

     Bm                        A

So dream on dream on Johnny

      G               A

And live all your dreams

      Bm  A         G

And live all your dreams

              D

Live your dreams     (Verse One to Finish)

Verse Two:

D                                  G

Johnny they say you’re a dreamer

      D                       G

Just throwin’ your life away

D                       G

Will you ever find them

      D                                G

And live all your dreams one day

         A

Never mind those people talkin’

         D                             G

About how you’re livin’ your life

      A

Just keep on dreamin’ those dreams

               D                      A

And you’ll do alright in your life

           G

In your life

Verse Three:

D                                  G

Johnny they say you’re a dreamer

            D                  G

Will you ever find your way

D                       G

Always lookin’ for sunshine

D              G

On a rainy day

           A

But the odds are always against you

           D                              G

For the things you’re trying to do

         A

But if you believe in somethin’

     D                      A

I’m sure you’ll see it through

         G

See it through

  1. Mark,

Sorry I have been so slow to get to your beautiful songs. I can relate to this one so very well. You could just as well put Jade in Johnny’s place ~ I have always followed my dreams and will do so until I fall asleep in the Lord. “If you can dream it, conceive it you will achieve it.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale (R.I.P)

Another heart touching song for WMDJ, the radio station that keeps me going these days … and lets me continue chasing my dreams one step at a time.

    God bless you Mark.

    With Love in Christ,

    Jade

  2. Jade,

Don’t worry about the timing of your comments – all you have to do is work on the timing of your healing! ♥ Just follow you doctor’s instructions, listen to WMDJ and keep saying your prayers for healing! I’m praying for you daily and I hope you’ll soon be able to focus your attention back to your family again! 🙂

    Love in Christ!

    Mark
