Original Song – “One Man” (A Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.)

One Man is a song about Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the fact that his dream still lives on in each one of us.  The song recounts Dr. King’s life, dream and his love for his fellow man, while emphasizing the fact that we hold the key to realizing his dream in our day.  The song is meant to be historical, symbolic, introspective and motivational – encouraging us to fulfill Dr. King’s dream through our actions each and every day.  One Man also conveys a sad perspective in reminding us how Dr. King’s brilliant life was so tragically cut short, but then the song finishes on a note of hope: “We hold the key, To the dream, Martin Luther King, Your dream lives on, Your dream lives on…”

I recorded my original song “One Man” as a tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Set One in 1996, and this finishes up my song demos from this first set. The song reminds us that, “We hold the key, To the dream, Martin Luther King, Your dream lives on, Your dream lives on…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “Lady, Oh Lady”

Lady, Oh Lady is a slow, simple, heartfelt and sentimental love song about commitment, distance and longing of the heart.  I love the relationship between the chord sequences and the soft and dreamy atmosphere the chords create for the lyrics to swirl around in, as if dancing in the fog of a wonderful, never-ending dream!  “Even though we’re, So far apart, You are always, In my heart, If I can’t be, There with you, I’ll send my love, To you, All my love, To you…”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded my original song “Lady, Oh Lady” on Set Eleven in 1997 on four takes, and surprisingly enough for me they all turned out pretty well! 🙂 Each take is a different flavor as takes one and two are strummed on the guitar using a pick, and takes three and four are simply strummed with my fingers. Take one is faster, while takes two, three and four keep slowing down and getting progressively better ~ I’ll share them all with you! Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
Original Song – “Singin’ The Blues”
Singin’ The Blues looks at life through the lens of time, family and memories within the perspective of progress as modern life encroaches on the very fabric of our lives. Our memories of what was and what has been are being slowly, but continuously, whittled and chipped away around the edges by time as life relentlessly marches forward.  Singin’ The Blues tells the fictional story of a singer returning to his grandparents’ farm and sitting on the front porch watching the rain, while recalling the days of how it used to be.  The singer realizes that “We must all, Carry on, Carry on, But I long, For the days, On my Grandpa’s farm.”  The singer then gazes out at new houses in the fields where he once played as a boy.  The singer never knew his grandfather for very long and verse four depicts a moving van driving away from what was now his grandmother’s farm – as time has indeed marched on,  “I can still see her now, The way she used to be, Like yesterday, The way it used to be…But you know, Time, Carries on…”
~~~~~~~~~~

I recorded my original song “Singin’ The Blues” as a demo on Set 8 in 1996, and it tells the story of ‘progress’ relentlessly marching on in our lives ~ and changing how things used to be, for better or for worse, “I’m just singing the blues, Watchin’ the rain fallin’ down, Sittin’ on the front porch, Of my Grandpa’s farm…”  Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “Love You So”

Love You So is a fast-paced and joyful song about love, reunions and second chances.  The song tells the fictional story of a woman who had left for whatever reason and now plans to come home.  The guy wakes up to a brand new day with the realization that today’s the day as he prepares to drive to the airport to meet her for their reunion.  The song speaks to changed hearts, second chances, new beginnings, fresh starts and changed perceptions – with both realizing while they were apart that something was missing from their lives – and their future together would be much better than their lives were apart!  “Stay with me baby, Forever more, I don’t want you ever, Walkin’ out the door, And leave me standin’, Here all alone, I’m so glad that, You’ve come back home, And you said that you love me too…”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded my original song “Love You So” in two takes on Set 3 in 1996, and as each take turned out well I’ll share them both with you today. The song speaks of a woman who has decided to return home and the excitement of the reunion that follows ~ with both realizing they are so much more together than they were apart. Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
Original Song – “Like A River”
Like A River is a reflective and introspective song that uses the analogies of a river and the wind to describe the ebb and flow of our lives, changing from calm and gentle to turbulent and out of control in mere moments.  Rivers and wind also symbolize the endless movement of time along a continuum, just as our lives exist along a timeline from birth to death.  Within these two analogies, we not only see ourselves flowing along in a river of time and blown along by the wind as if in a hot air balloon – we also see that others accompany us along the way – sharing with us this passage of time and precious opportunity called life.  “Life’s like a river, Just rollin’ along, That river keeps flowin’, On and on…”
~~~~~~~~~~

I recorded my original song “Like A River” in two takes as demos on Set 7 in 1996, and the second take is the better version.  The song compares our journey through life to a river and to the wind, as they both flow through periods of calm and turbulence, “Life’s like a river, Just rollin’ along, That river keeps flowin’, On and on…”  Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “You’re The One”

You’re The One is a very soft, gentle and mellow love song that speaks to thoughts drifting between hearts like golden leaves as they swirl and tumble gently through the air, carried aloft by a soft autumn breeze – or perhaps transported between hearts in the comfort of fluffy clouds across a clear, blue sky.  Daydreams and loving thoughts take on a life of their own, existing outside of time and place…transporting us to other worlds…to a realm where hearts dwell under rainbows and love never dies!  “You’re the one I dream about, When my thoughts drift away, You’re the one I’m missin’, When you’ve gone so far away…”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded “You’re The One” three times on Set 3 back in 1996. Each version presents a slightly different view of this quiet and reflective little love song, and I’ll share all three versions with you today, “You’re the one I dream about, When my thoughts drift away, You’re the one I’m missin’, When you’ve gone so far away…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
Original Song – “Love’s Like A Rainbow”
Love’s Like A Rainbow is a heartfelt love song that begins with a familiar marching cadence, “I don’t know, but I’ve been told, Love’s like a rainbow, made of gold, I don’t know, I don’t know…”  Most of the song follows the singer’s lament of being told what love is all about, without having experienced love itself.  At the end of verse three the singer finally falls in love for the first time and expresses a joyful heart,  “I woke up this mornin’ to somethin’ new, And felt the love that I’m feelin’ for you, For you, for you…”
~~~~~~~~~~

I recorded my original song “Love’s Like A Rainbow” in three takes on Set 5 in 1996, and I’ll share all three versions with you ~ as they all reflect a moment in this songwriting journey of mine, “I don’t know but I’ve been told, Love’s like a rainbow made of gold, I don’t know, I don’t know…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “My Life’s Journey”

My Life’s Journey is a song about realizing we need guidance as we go through life – specifically in the areas of patience, courage and wisdom.  It’s God who has called us into being and has a plan and purpose for our lives.  It’s only in living within His will that we can fulfill the meaning and purpose of our lives as he guides us through His hand, light and word.  My wish and prayer is that God would bless and keep you, guide your footsteps as you journey through life and provide you with life in abundance!  “As I travel on my way, Through my life’s journey, Along the path of life, I know your hand guides me, And it’s ‘gonna be alright.”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded my original song “My Life’s Journey” in two takes on Set 6 in 1996, and as usual the second take turned out the best. The song speaks to the winding path we walk through life, and trusting God to show us the way, “As I travel on my way, Through my life’s journey, Along the path of life, I know your hand guides me, And it’s ‘gonna be alright…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
Original Song – “In The Name Of Pride”
In The Name Of Pride is a song about our pride getting in the way of loving the people in our lives that we really care about.  Instead, we often find ourselves focusing on our needs, our concerns, our views and our opinions in life and messing up our lives because our pride has clouded our vision and blinded us from seeing what was really important to us – standing right in front of us all along.  Life is an experiment in choices and oftentimes our choices simply miss the mark and can’t be taken back…which leaves us standing in the rain… “In the name of pride, I threw my life away, In the name of pride, I threw it all away, I never thought I’d find myself, Standin’ in the rain…”
~~~~~~~~~~

I recorded my original song “In The Name Of Pride” as a demo on Set 16 in 1997, and it speaks to letting pride get in the way of love, “In the name of pride, I threw my life away, In the name of pride, I threw it all away…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “Story Of My Life”

Story Of My Life looks at life as an open book, a work in progress over the course of our lives.  The stories at the beginning of our lives are filled-in with text and pictures, while the remaining portion consists of blank pages still waiting to be written.  The song asks us to look at where our lives have taken us so far in our journey, and ask ourselves where our lives will go from here.  “Life is an open book, Spend a moment and take a look, At where your life is taking you, Where do you go from here…”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded my original song “Story Of My Life” as a demo on Set 11 in 1997, and it speaks to our journey through life and where we will go from this point forward, “I was lookin’ at a book, It was the story of my life, As I turned the pages, It all came to life…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
That was still ahead of me
A life I couldn’t see
