Original Song – “Merry Christmas”

Merry Christmas is an alternative type of Christmas song.  It isn’t an upbeat ‘candy canes and presents’ Christmas song, but instead looks at the reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place – to have a personal relationship with Jesus – the humble babe wrapped in swaddling clothes.   It also speaks to the world waiting for you to help bring the light, love and hope of Christ to them through your relationship with Him.

The unfortunate truth is that the true meaning, message and gift of Christmas has become lost in the modern focus on materialism these days.  Yet the world is full of people in all countries and continents that have been left out of Christmas and the Good News of Jesus Christ.  There is so much to be done in our world and this song reminds us as Christians to, “Go to the world tonight, To bring the people light, For the world waits for you, To bring them the news, Of Christ, tonight, tonight…Merry Christmas…”

I recorded my original song “Merry Christmas” in two takes on Set 14 in 1997, and I’ll share both of them with you today. It’s another alternative Christmas song of mine that speaks to having a personal relationship with Jesus to bring the light, love and hope of Christ to the world, “Go to the world tonight, To bring the people light, For the world waits for you, To bring them the news, Of Christ, tonight, tonight…Merry Christmas…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “Noel”

Noel is the sweetest Christmas song that I’ve written.  To visualize this song, I see and hear a children’s choir singing it in a beautiful Cathedral, with hand-held Christmas bells used throughout the song. The beginning of each verse repeats the word, “Noel” four times in a row – each time changing a few notes in pitch, harmonizing with the others as they echo off of the Cathedral’s walls.  This song uses the innocence of children and the crisp and clear Christmas bells to announce to the world that, “Christ is King, Noel.”  So sit back and close your eyes for a moment and listen with your imagination as the children’s choir sings, “Can you hear the church bells ring?  Noel, Noel.  Can you hear the children sing?  Noel, Noel.”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded my original song “Noel” on Set 13 in 1997, and it’s a Christmas song that speaks to children ringing in the joy of Christmas. While my performance of “Noel” may be a bit rough, my songs aren’t about me at all. This song in particular is written for a children’s choir in a cathedral ringing Christmas bells and announcing the joy of Christmas to the world, “On Christmas day let children sing, Lifting voices high to Christ our King, Noel, Noel…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
Original Song – “Just As I Have Loved You”
Just As I Have Loved You, is derived from the New Testament verse found in John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (New International Version – Used With Permission)  Some Bible versions use the translation, “Just as I have loved you” in verse 34 – which is what I have used in my song – reminding us that just as Jesus has loved us – we are to love one another.
The reality of Christmas is that while TV portrays the perfect Christmas, the truth is that for every family that has a wonderful Christmas there are many who are left out of Christmas.  For more reasons than can be counted, individuals and families fall through the cracks during the holidays, and don’t experience a, “picture perfect storybook Christmas” filled with the holiday warmth of a loving family, long-time cherished friends and wonderful gift exchanges with those who are near and dear to them.
It is Jesus Christ who reminds us to do what we can to seek out those who would be alone or not participating in Christmas, so we can show them the love of Jesus at Christmas – just as He first loved us.  For Jesus is the meaning of the Christmas season, and He wants our focus to be on going out into the world to love one another, “So go out into the world, With the joy of Christmas Day, And spread the love of Christ, on your way…”
~~~~~~~~~~

I recorded my original song “Just As I Have Loved You” on Set 13 in 1997, and it’s an alternative Christmas song that doesn’t focus on all the traditional joys of the Christmas season. It focuses instead on the message Christ carries to us with His birth in Bethlehem, one of loving one another – especially those who don’t know the true meaning of Christmas or aren’t in a position to celebrate it in the traditional sense. “There are people, on Christmas Day, Who are lost, and alone…So go out into the world, With the joy of Christmas Day, And spread the love of Christ, on your way…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

You find yourself, all alone

What a joy it is for us

     G              Em

For Christ was born

     F                   C

So on Christmas Day think of those out there
