Original Song – “When Will You Begin”

When Will You Begin is a tender and heartfelt song about love, commitment and affirmation, that speaks to communicating the totality and depth of love one holds for another.  Words and actions should harmonize together within a beautiful melody, and when they don’t it creates an air of doubt and uncertainty.  The true nature of love is complementary – where thoughts, feelings, words, deeds, actions, choices, decisions, commitment, affirmation and desire all harmonize in a single message that communicates the true purity, depth and enduring nature of love… “If you could dream a thousand dreams, Would they be with me, If a dream could last forever, I’d like to spend that time with you…”

I recorded my original song “When Will you Begin” as a demo on Set 7 in 1996, and these two takes complete the set.  The song speaks of love and commitment, “If you could dream a thousand dreams, Would they be with me, If a dream could last forever, I’d like to spend that time with you…”  Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “Show The World”

Show The World is a slow, tender and heartfelt song that speaks to sharing ourselves with the world around us through loving and caring for one another.  After all, what else is there in this temporal existence called life that could possibly matter more?  The song asks us to step out of ourselves and make a difference in the lives of others through love, “Show the world that you love them, Show the world that you care, You can make a difference, To people everywhere…”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded my original song “Show The World” on Set Two in 1996, and it completes the song posts from this set. This song is the 75th original song and 100th song track I’ve posted on SoundCloud to date, and there are many more to share in the future. “Show The World” reminds us all to, “Show the world that you love them, Show the world that you care, You can make a difference, To people everywhere…”
Original Song – “The World Gently Weeps”
The World Gently Weeps is a tender and heartfelt song that portrays a world weeping in the darkness over concerns for its suffering people, reminding us that we are our brother’s and sister’s keeper.  The song references, “Cries in the darkness, Echoes on the streets, A cold wind is blowin’, The chill runs deep, Children goin’ hungry, People livin’ on the street” as a few of the representative ills that the world weeps over that cry out for warmth, light and love for all people, everywhere.  The singer then turns to us, both individually and collectively to plead, “We have to come together, Holding hands in the street, You and I together, United we can defeat, The darkness all around us, And take back the streets, With love for each other, As the world gently weeps…”
~~~~~~~~~~

I recorded my original song “The World Gently Weeps” on Set One in 1996, and it speaks of being our brother’s and sister’s keeper to help turn back the darkness and spread light in the world. I missed the first note of the Emin9 chord at the beginning of the song’s lyrics, but it does get better from there ~ enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “Girl Next Door”

Girl Next Door is a heartfelt song about the memories and reflections of days gone by and people we once knew.   The autobiographical portions of the song are that there was a popular girl my age living across the street during high school, I wasn’t on anyone’s social calendar, I grew up in a relatively small town, I dreamed of seeing the world when I was younger and I’ve actually visited the places mentioned in the song. It’s easy to view life from a sort of “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence” mentality – looking at other people’s lives from a distance and wishing we had what they have – but we can never really know the truth about anyone’s situation from observation alone.  What we see as idyllic from afar, may actually be an entirely different experience when viewed from within. Popularity doesn’t always equate to happiness and sometimes “quiet and steady” wins the race over the course of time – for life is not a sprint, but a marathon – and in many respects it’s all about the finish… “I wonder where she is, After all these years have gone by, She was the girl next door, And I was just the guy, Livin’ in the house beside her, So many years ago…”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded my original song “Girl Next Door” on Set 5 in 1996, and it’s autobiographical in nature as a popular girl my age lived across the street when we were in high school, we lived in a small town, I wasn’t on anyone’s social calendar growing up and I’ve visited the places mentioned in the song. Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
Original Song – “Love And Life”
Love And Life is a fast paced and driven song about walking in the truth, recapturing the innocence of youth and walking in the light of Christ.  It’s about getting lost in the living of life and trying to return to basics while there’s still time.  So often in this modern world, we find ourselves going through the motions of marching to someone else’s drummer and waking up to the notion that there has to be something better – something more – something true, innocent and real.  We find ourselves lost in the darkness of life and need to seek out the light… “Days will come, days will go, but you know it’s hard to ever know, If the road we’re walkin’ is the truth, Have we lost the innocence of youth, How will we know what to do, It’s up to me and you…”
~~~~~~~~~~

“Love And Life” is another song from Set 2 that I recorded in 1996 using my Fender Strat, and it speaks to the twists, turns, ups and downs of life’s winding road as we all walk towards our own personal truth ~ enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “Sail Away”

Sail Away is a song about charting our own course through life by using the examples of sailing, driving and walking – leaving our cares behind, following our dreams and seeking happiness in the simple things in life.  Happiness is and always has been a choice that we make in our lives, and part of the equation of happiness comes down to following our hopes and dreams.  We often find that our dreams are not found in the distant realms of the stars and the universe, or in some faraway place on the other side of the world, but in the simple pleasures of life right in our own backyard… “Some day we’ll understand, The dreams we’ve been searching for, Were really nothing more, Than holding hands, Walkin’ with toes in the sand…”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded my original song “Sail Away” in two takes as demos on Set 10 in 1997, and it speaks to living our dreams, “Come let’s sail away, Set our sails today, We’ll follow the stars, No matter how far…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
Original Song – Love Is Like A Flower
Love Is Like A Flower reflects a natural and organic approach to describing the glow and experience of being in love – after all, love is one of the most natural aspects of our lives!  What is love, if not the process of nurturing and nourishing souls? Love encourages us all to rise to the highest pinnacles of humanity to love and care for one another.  The singer in this song realizes that he or she doesn’t deserve the love that’s given to them, representing the selfless and giving aspect of unconditional love – love for love’s sake.  The rose symbolizes the fragile and precious nature of love so perfectly – in form, function, color, texture, aroma and fragrance – and the singer uses that symbolism in singing, “Love is like a flower, Like the petals of a rose, So perfect and fragile, Like a flower our love grows…”
~~~~~~~~~~

I recorded “Love Is Like A Flower” in two separate versions in Set 8, and will post both of them for you today. They’re played on my 12-string Ovation acoustic guitar, with Take One using a pick to strum with in my usual way, and Take Two was simply strumming the guitar with my fingers, which created a softer version of the same song and my favorite of the two ~ enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

~~~~~~~~~~
This is the second take of when I recorded “Love Is Like A Flower” back in the 1996-1997 time frame. I simply strummed the guitar with my fingers, which was a different style that I used occasionally while practicing at home. The song is over 4 minutes long, which is a long song as my songs go, and I lost the rhythm of my finger strumming for a second or two in the middle of the song ~ but I like the overall softer and more tender version this take created…mistake and all! Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
Original Song – “You And Me”
You And Me is a song about changing the world and making a difference to people like you and me.  Changing the world isn’t about revolutions, ideology, politics or slogans – it’s about making a difference to people and changing hearts through love – one heart at a time.  If everyone in the world simply chose love as the answer, the world would be changed in the span of a single heartbeat.  Can it be done?  Sure.  Will it be done?  It’s up to you and me…  “So we have to work together, If we want to change the world, And we’re thinkin’ that we can, And we’re thinkin’ that we can, Make a difference to people, Like you and me…”
As with all of my early songs during which I worked with my friend Gordon Olvera, I’ve shared the copyright with him for trying to give voice to my songs.  Also, emailed versions of these songs lose their chord alignment and formatting, so refer to the original post and/or the scanned lyric sheet as your guide.
Original Song – “Seems Like Rain”
Seems Like Rain is an early song of mine that speaks to hope, change, opportunity and new horizons.  It’s a very short and reflective song that in a way is autobiographical in nature – reflecting the fact that I went west on my 8,000 mile bicycle adventure back in 1976 – but this song wasn’t written specifically with that event in mind.  Instead, it was written to reflect our restless, inner nature and eternal optimism, that believes a change of pace can bring sunshine into our lives and drive the rain away!  “Time to get on with my life, Looking for those sunny skies, ‘Cause that rain’s been in my life for way too long…”
~~~~~~~~~~

I recorded my original song “Seems Like Rain” in two takes on Set 8 in 1996, and it was a challenge for me to reach the high notes, but take two improved, “There are times in my life, When that rain keeps falling down, And that rain follows me, Wherever I go…” Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark

Original Song – “Hills Of Tennessee”

Hills Of Tennessee is a slow, heartfelt and sentimental song about chance meetings and love at first sight.  It’s also about home, family and happy endings.  It’s a lengthy song as my songs go, and the lyrics simply speak for themselves – so I’ll step aside and let you be the judge, “I’d never seen eyes so green, She was the prettiest thing I’d ever seen, I said yes anything would do, But may I have you, For the rest of my life, For the rest of my life, For the rest of my life…”

~~~~~~~~~~
I recorded my original song “Hills Of Tennessee” in three takes as demos on Set 9 in 1996, and they tell the story of a guy who falls in love with his waitress with big green eyes in Tennessee while driving to California, “Back in the hills of Tennessee, She was as cute as a girl could be, And I was drivin’ by on my way, In my ol’ Chevrolet…”  Enjoy! ♡ 🙂 Mark
